Eating with Braces

Nov 2 • 1 minute read

Managing oral hygiene with braces can be a challenge.  Oftentimes, it will take longer to clean your teeth with braces in place, but it is worth it to ensure a great result in the end!  There are several foods to avoid while in braces including:

  • Ice

  • Nuts

  • Popcorn

  • Hard or chewy candy

  • Gum

  • Corn on the cob

  • Pretzels

  • Ribs

  • Hard bread/crusts

  • Peanut brittle

  • Apples

It is recommended to cut foods into smaller pieces as well.  Oftentimes a dentist will recommend a prescription strength fluoride toothpaste to help prevent tooth decalcification.  Water flossers are also a great tool to clean around brackets.  Be sure to ask us for advice if you know braces are in your future!
